The City of Sydney is using 100% GreenPower to cover the electricity used by many of their Christmas decorations and by their world-famous New Year's Eve celebrations.

As well as energy efficient LED lights and timed lighting for the City's flagship 20 metre tree in the centre of the CBD, a total of 13 Christmas trees and many of the City's decorations will be powered by 100% GreenPower thanks to a sponsorship with EnergyAustralia. The GreenPower purchase will save an estimated 59 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.

Electricity use associated with Sydney's world-famous New Year's Eve celebrations will also be matched with 100% accredited GreenPower, with organisers also undergoing a carbon audit to measure and offset the impact of the event. The event, which attracts millions of viewers to Sydney Harbour foreshores and is watched by millions of others on television has been powered by GreenPower since 2004.

The City of Sydney purchases 100% GreenPower for all it's electricity use including street lighting, gradually increasing it's percentage purchase over the last three years. Major City events including sustainability festival, Live Green, and the City's Small Business Awards are also powered by GreenPower.
